Energy Dissipation Enhanced by Multiple Hinges in Bridge Piers with CFST Y-Shaped Fuses

چکیده

Concrete-filled steel tubular Y-shaped (CFST-Y) piers are good candidates for meeting the structural and aesthetic requirements of bridges. By using theoretical nonlinear static (pushover) analyses, seismic performances three types CFST-Y were evaluated at different hazard levels. The formulas first proposed to estimate lateral stiffnesses with pier–deck connections. Then, ductility development plastic hinges in was investigated based on pushover analyses. results demonstrate that dimensions, deck mass, shear limit, stiffness bearings can remarkably affect formation thereby lead energy dissipation patterns achieve expected performance piers. findings suggest an economic design strategy piers, members as fuses multiple hinges, low-level cost-effectively.

Bridge Piers with Structural Fuses and Bi-Steel Columns. I: Experimental Testing

Structural fuses, easily replaceable sacrificial elements to dissipate seismic energy while preventing damage to the gravity loadresisting structural system, are proposed as part of a multicolumn accelerated bridge construction (ABC) pier concept. Different types of structural fuses are investigated to compare the effect of each on ABC bridge bents. The piers of a three span-continuous bridge p...

Bridge Piers with Structural Fuses and Bi-Steel Columns. II: Analytical Investigation

This paper presents the results of an analytical investigation conducted to replicate experimentally obtained behavior, and better understand the behavior of the proposed structural fuse concept for bridges that is presented in a companion paper. First, a steel plate shear link (SPSL) proposed as a new type of structural fuse is described. Equations are derived to define its shear-moment intera...

Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Bridge Piers Having Structural Fuses and Bi-steel Columns

Bridges are built in a variety of locations, many of which are susceptible to earthquakes. These bridges must be built to achieve the objectives of both accelerated bridge construction (ABC) and rapid return to service following a disaster. The concept of designing sacrificial elements to dissipate seismic energy while preserving the integrity of the structure’s other main components is known a...

Deflection Measurement of Masonry Arch Bridges with Tall Piers: Case Study of Shahbazan Bridge

A common practice for detailed assessment of masonry bridges is to use recorded deflection signature of mid-span of such structures due to predefined loading schemes. However, measuring the deflection of bridges with tall piers or those situated over deep valleys introduces certain difficulties, since common deflection-meters require a reference point relative to which the measureme...
